Jamison Scores Inaugural 305 Winged Nationals Victory

Donnellson, IA (Saturday, June 23, 2018) - Mother nature played havoc with many tracks in the area on Friday night, as drenching rains most of the week forced tracks to cancel their Friday night shows. Including the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. But when 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa made the decision to cancel their Saturday night racing program on Friday, the officials at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway decided to move Friday nights program to Saturday night.

The move would pay off, as close to 100 cars packed the pit area and a very nice crowd was on hand to witness the action. Highlighting the night would be the Inaugural 305 Winged Nationals, being presented by Mohrfeld Electric and Hoenig Lawn Care. The 305 Sprint Cars would be chasing a top prize of $1,000, with the Steffes Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Donnellson Tire & Service Stock Cars, Discount Tire & Service SportMods, and Armstrong Tractor Sport Compacts also on the card.

After 14 heat races and a dash were completed to help set the feature line ups, it was time to go feature racing. The 16 lap Discount Tire & Service SportMods were up first, with Ron Kibbe and Adam Birck drawing the front row. Kibbe would take advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Levi Layman, who started 5th, and Birck. Kibbe then held the top spot until lap 4, when Layman slipped by to take the lead. Meanwhile, Daniel Fellows, who started 10th, was working his way towards the front. On lap 5 Fellows worked himself into second and then went to work on Layman for the lead. The action was slowed for the first time on lap 8, as debris in turn 1 brought out the yellow. On the restart Fellows used the top of the track to take over the top spot, leaving Layman to battle Kibbe, and Austen Becerra, who started 9th, in the battle for second. Just when it looked like Fellows would pull away to an easy win, the second and final caution of the race appeared on lap 14. Bob Cowman slowed to a stop in turn 2 to bring out the caution and set up a two lap dash to the finish. Fellows once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Becerra and Kibbe close behind. Despite a last lap challenge from Becerra, Fellows would hold on to claim his third win of the season at the track. Becerra settled for 2nd, Brandon Dale charged from 11th to finish 3rd, Kibbe was 4th, with Shaun Slaughter coming from 8th to finish in 5th.

Up next was the 16 lap Donnellson Tire & Service Stock Car feature, with David Brandies and Jeremy Pundt leading the field to green. Brandies took advantage of his draw to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Dean Kratzer and John Oliver Jr. Kratzer would work under Brandies to take over the top spot on lap 2, and then started to put some distance on the battle for second. But a few laps later he would loose his brakes, which allowed Oliver Jr. and Jason Cook, who started 8th, to close in on him. On lap 8 Oliver Jr. slipped under Kratzer to take over the lead, with Cook following him into second. Cook then tried to work under Oliver Jr. coming off the corners over the next 5 laps, with Oliver Jr. holding him off at the line each lap. Disaster would strike Kratzer on lap 13, as he slowed down the backstretch after loosing a motor to bring out the yellow. On the restart Oliver Jr. jumped back out front, with Cook and Brandies glued to his back bumper. Oliver Jr. would hold on over the final laps to score his second win of the season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Cook was 2nd, Pundt was 3rd, Corey Strothman finished 4th after starting in 9th, with Jason See coming home in 5th.

Bruce Hanford and Jordan Walker drew the front row for the 18 lap Budweiser Modified feature, with Hanford jumping out into the lead on lap 1 over Jeff Waterman and Walker. Just after lap 1 was scored complete, Bill Roberts Jr. slowed down the backstretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Hanford moved back out front, with Waterman and Mike Van Genderen, who started 8th, close behind. While Hanford worked to hold off Waterman, Steve Stewart, who started 7th, was quickly working his way into the battle. On lap 11 Stewart over took Van Genderen for third and then one lap later he made the pass of Waterman to move into second. But disaster would strike Stewart on lap 13, as he tried to work under Hanford coming off turn 4 and made contact with Hanford's left rear. Which resulted in Stewart spinning to bring out the yellow. Hanford once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Van Genderen and Dakota Simmons following. Van Genderen would close in on Hanford's back bumper on the final lap, but Hanford held on to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Van Genderen was 2nd, Simmons was 3rd, Mitch Boles was 4th, with Kelly Buckallew coming from 11th to finish in 5th.

The 20 lap Inaugural 305 Winged Nationals Sprint Car feature was up next, with Harold Pohren and John Schulz leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Schulz used his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Pohren and Ryan Jamison. The lead for Schulz only lasted for 1 lap, as Jamison shot under him on lap 2 to take over the top spot. Debris in turn 1 on lap 4 would bring out the first caution of the race. On the restart Jamison jumped back out front, with Tanner Gebhardt and Schulz close behind. The fast pace that Jamison was setting would put him into lapped traffic on lap 9. But that wasn't enough to slow him down, as he built up a straight-away lead. The only thing that did slow Jamison down was the second and final caution of the race. As debris in turn 3 on lap 12 brought out the yellow. Jamison once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Gebhardt and Schulz following. Without another caution to slow the pace, Jamison would pull away to claim the win and the $1,000 check to go with it. Gebhardt was 2nd, Schulz was 3rd, Pohren was 4th, with Brayden Gaylord coming home in 5th.

Sam Halstead and Tim Simpson drew the front row for the 20 lap Steffes Late Model feature, with Halstead grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Todd Frank and Simpson. The action was slowed for the first and only time on lap 2, as debris under the flag stand brought out the yellow. On the restart Halstead moved back out front, with Tommy Elston, who started 4th, over taking Frank for second. One lap later, lap 4, Elston used the top of the track to take the top spot away from Halstead. While Halstead battled Jay Johnson, who started 5th, and Jeff Guengerich, who started 8th, for second, Elston would pull away to claim his second win of the season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Johnson won the battle for 2nd, Guengerich was 3rd, Halstead was 4th, with Frank rounding out the top 5.

The final feature to take to the track on the night was the 14 lap Armstrong Tractor Sport Compacts, with Barry Taft and Mike Reu making up the front row. Taft took advantage of his draw to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Reu and Ryan Havel. While Taft set a fast pace out front, Reu, Havel, and Kimberly Abbott, who started 5th, battled for second. Just when it looked like Taft would cruise to an easy win, the red flag appeared on lap 11 to slow the action. Havel, who was running 3rd, caught fire in turn 4 and slowed to a stop under the flag stand to bring out the red. On the restart Taft moved back out front, with Abbott and Jake Dietrich, who charged from 20th, glued to Taft's back bumper. Coming off turn 4 to get the checkered flag, Abbott would get up beside Taft. But Taft would hold her off at the line to pick up his fifth win of the season at the track. Abbott settled for 2nd, Trent Orwig, who started 10th, over took Dietrich on the final lap to finish in 3rd, Dietrich was 4th, with William Michel finishing 5th after starting in 8th.

Hats off to the Lee County Speedway track crew, as they worked most of the day and even as the night went along to produce the best racing surface possible to the driver's. Despite no sun all day to help dry things up the track had so much moisture in it that it had plenty of soft spots. Which is very unusual for this track. The driver's themselves did an outstanding job of putting on a show for the very nice crowd on hand. As only 9 cautions flew, four for debris, four for a stopped car, and one for a spin, in the 104 laps of feature racing.

Evan Martin Scores First Career Sprint Invaders Feature Win at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway

Memphis, MO (Friday, June 15, 2018) - It's been twelve years since the Sprint Invaders last visited the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri. But that drought would come to an end, as the series returned to the widest track in the Midwest on Friday night. All of it couldn't be possible without the support of Pepsi Memphis Bottling Co, Casey's General Store, B&B Propane, Lakeside Towing, KMEM, Walker Motors Collision Repair, Gas & More, NEMO Trader, and Hawkeye Trader. The nice crowd on hand got to witness one driver score his first career Sprint Invaders feature win, and four other driver's claiming their first wins of the season at the track.

The 12 lap Sport Compact feature was first to take to the track, with Josh Barnes and Kevin Garrett drawing the front row for the event. Barnes would use his starting spot to his advantage, as he grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Brandon Housley and Barry Taft, who started 8th. The lead for Barnes only lasted for 1 lap, as Housley would slip past to take over the top spot on lap 2. But Barnes wouldn't give up, as he looked under Housley over the next 2 laps. Housley would hold him off each lap, that was until coming off turn 2 to complete lap 5. Barnes was able to work under Housley, as the two raced down the backstretch side-by-side. Barnes emerged off turn 4 with the top spot. Over the next 5 laps Housley tried to work back under Barnes, before the action was slowed for the first and only time on lap 10. Seth Scholl, who made the long pull down from La Crosse, Wisconsin, came to a stop in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Barnes jumped back out front, with Housley and Taft glued to his back bumper. Housley would try to work under Barnes coming of turn 4 on the last lap for the win. But Barnes was able to hold him off to claim his first win of the season at the track. Housley settled for 2nd, Taft was 3rd, Brandon Reu started 6th and finished 4th, with Kimberly Abbott rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 10 lap Hobby Stock feature, and despite only four of the five starters taking the green flag the race turned out to be a good one. Derek Kirkland and Aaron Martin made up the front row, with Martin edging out Kirkland at the line to lead lap 1. Kirkland would look under Martin coming off the corners, even getting up beside him on lap 3 and 5. But Martin held the lead at the line each lap. Then coming off turn 4 for the last time Kirkland once again got up beside Martin. But Martin would use the momentum off the top of turn 4 to edge out Kirkland at the line for his first win of the season at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Kirkland settled for 2nd, Rick Van Dusseldorp was 3rd, with Catlin Auberlin rounding out the starting field.

Evan Martin and Kyle Bellm led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 25 lap Sprint Invaders feature, with Martin using his starting spot to move out front on lap 1 over Bellm and his father Randy Martin. The fast pace Evan Martin was setting out front put him into lapped traffic on lap 8. Despite the lapped traffic keeping Evan Martin from putting some distance between himself and the battle behind him for second. It looked like he would go unchallenged for an easy win. But the one and only caution of the race appeared on lap 17, which would allow the rest of the field to restart on Even's back bumper. Randy Martin and Cody Wehrle, who were battling for the fourth spot, got together off turn 2 and spun to bring out the yellow. Both cars suffered too much damage to continue. On the restart Bellm went low going into turn 1 and then slid up in front of Evan Martin coming off turn 2 to hold the lead briefly. But Evan would turn back down under him coming off turn 2 to keep the lead at the strip. One lap later, lap 19, Jon Agan, who started 5th, slid past Bellm to take over the runner up spot. Agan then made a few challenges on Evan Martin over the final laps. But Evan was able to hold him off to score his first career Sprint Invaders win. Agan was 2nd, Bellm was 3rd, Brayden Gaylord started 9th and finished 4th, with John Schulz coming home in 5th.

Twenty-four SportMods took to the track next for there 20 lap feature, with Adam Birck and Trent Brink drawing the front row. Birck took advantage of his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Jeffrey DeLonjay and Daniel Fellows. The two and three wide action was slowed for the first time on lap 4, as Austin Becerra, who started 8th and was running 4th, spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Birck moved back out front, with Fellows over taking DeLonjay for second. Fellows then tried to work under and even tried the top of the track to get by Birck over the next 2 laps, when the second caution of the race slowed the action on lap 7. This time Brandon Dale, who started 10th and was running 4th, spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Birck once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Fellows working to hold back Brandon Lennox, who started 12th, in the battle for second. One lap later, lap 9, DeLonjay's run up front came to an end, as he spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Jace Gay spun in turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Birck jump back out front, with Lennox over taking Fellows for second. Lennox, who was working the top of the track, used the momentum off the top of the track coming off turn 4 to grab the top spot away from Birck on lap 11. Birck, who was working the bottom of the track, wouldn't go away, as he tried to work under Lennox over the final laps. But Lennox was able to hold him off to score his first win of the season at the track. Birck was 2nd, Fellows was 3rd, Charlie Weber finished 4th after starting in 11th, with Jim Gillenwater driving Fellows back up car to a 5th place finish.

The 15 lap Stock Car feature was the final event to take to the track, with Derrick Agee and Tom Bowling Jr. on the front row. Just as the green flag waved the caution light would come on, as Eric Glass spun in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the original restart Agee grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Bowling Jr. and John Oliver Jr., who started 6th. After the completion of lap 1 Beau Taylor and Steve Mast collided in turn 1 to bring out the caution. Agee jumped back out front on the restart, with Oliver Jr. over taking Bowling Jr. for second. After another lap was scored complete, the final caution of the race appeared. Glass would spin in turn 2 to bring out his second caution to end his night. On the restart Agee jumped back out front, with Oliver Jr., Abe Huls and Bowling Jr. glued to his back bumper. Oliver Jr., who was working the top of the track, used the momentum to grab the top spot on lap 6. But Agee, who was working the bottom of the track, came back to take the lead back on lap 7. Huls would make it three wide for the lead, as he worked under both Agee and Oliver Jr. to grab the top spot on lap 8. Over the final 7 laps Oliver Jr. would work the top to try and get the lead away from Huls. But Huls was able to hold him off on the final lap to pick up his first win of the season at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway.

Notes from SCS: Seth Scholl and Justin Anderson both made the long pull down from La Crosse, Wisconsin to compete in the Sport Compact class. Unfortunately both suffered a flat tire in the feature......Hank Billings had mechanical troubles in the heat race that forced him to scratch from the Hobby Stock feature......Brady Barker made the pull over New Berlin, Illinois to compete with the Sprint Invaders. He would start the feature in 10th and finished 7th....John Greenwood finished 8th after starting in 11th....Jarrod Schneiderman got upside down off turn 3 in the heat race that forced him to scratch from the feature....Harold Pohren suffered motor troubles in his heat that forced him to scratch from the feature......Austin Howes started the SportMod feature in 13th and then passed 7 cars to come home in 6th....Austen Becerra recovered from his spin on lap 4 to come back up to finish 7th....Brandon Dale also recovered from his spin on lap 7 to come back up to finish in 8th....Kiel Morton passed 10 cars from his 19th place starting spot to come home in 9th....Rick Barlow Jr., who started 15th, recovered from a flat tire on lap 9 to come back up to finish in 12th....Jace Gay finished 13th after spinning on the lap 9 restart....Jeff Frana started 17th and finished 14th.

Schneiderman Claims 305 Sprint Cash at 34 Raceway

West Burlington, IA (Saturday, June 9, 2018) - After taking last Saturday and Sunday off from racing, I decided to make the small drive over to 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, June 9th. The 305 Sprint Cars were going for a top prize of $1,000, with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, and IMCA Sport Compacts all in action.

The 20 lap IMCA Modified feature would take to the track first, with Jordan Walker and Dustin Smith  making up the front row. Smith would take advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Dean McGee and Brandon Rothzen, who started 8th. Just after the lap was scored complete Dennis LaVeine spun in turn 1 to bring out the caution. Under the caution Rothzen had to go to the pits to change a left rear flat tire. On the restart Smith jumped back out front, with McGee and Scott Hogan, who started 10th, following close behind. While Smith paced the field out front all eyes were on Rothzen, who was working the bottom and the top of the track to work himself back towards the front. The action was slowed for the second time of the race on lap 5, as Derek Walker and Jeff Waterman got together in turn 2 with Walker spinning to bring out the yellow.

Smith moved back out front on the restart, with Bill Roberts Jr., who started 7th, and McGee now glued to his back bumper.  Roberts Jr.'s run up front came to an end on lap 10, when he lost a motor in turn 3 and slowed to a stop just under the flag stand to bring out the caution. On the restart McGee, Mitch Boles and Kory Meyer collided in turn 4 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Rothzen shoot under Smith on the start to complete the run from the back to the lead after changing a tire under the lap 1 caution. Rothzen then pulled away over the final laps to claim his first win of the season at the track. Smith was 2nd, Hogan was 3rd, Steve Stewart was 4th, with LaVeine recovering from his spin on lap 1 to come back up to finish 5th.
Gladstone, Illinois' Brandon Rothzen drove from last to first in the IMCA Modified feature on Saturday, June 9th at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.

Up next was the 15 lap IMCA SportMod feature, with Scott Williams and Kevin Goben leading the field to the drop of the green flag. But just as the green dropped the yellow light would come on, as Jeffrey DeLonjay spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the original restart Goben jumped out into the lead, with Williams and James Roose following. Then when lap 1 was scored complete another caution appeared, as Colton Pace spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Goben moved back out front on the restart, with Williams and Sean Wyett, who started 8th, battling for the runner up spot. Goben paced the field out front until lap 6, when contact from Austen Becerra sent Ryan Miller spinning in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. While under the yellow Goben’s left front broke which caused him to pull off. Wyett would inherit the lead on the restart, with Ron Kibbe, who started 6th, and Brandon Setser, who started 10th, battling for second. With the battles going on behind him, Wyett would pull away over the final laps to score his third win of the season at 34 Raceway. Kibbe won the battle for 2nd, Setser was 3rd, Daniel Fellows was 4th after starting in 7th, and Becerra, who started 9th, recovered from his involvement in the lap 6 caution to come back up to finish in 5th.
Sean Wyett of Danville, Iowa won his third IMCA SportMod feature at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, June 9th.

Chad Krogmeier and Cody Washburne led the field to green in the 15 lap IMCA Stock Car feature. But just as the green waved the yellow light would come on, as debris in turn 2 brought out the yellow. On the following restart Washburne took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Krogmeier and Jason Cook. Krogmeier tried to work under Washburne over the next 3 laps, but Washburne was able to hold him off each lap. That was until coming off turn 2 to complete lap 5 he drifted high, which allowed Krogmeier to go by for the lead. Over the final 5 laps Cook would look under Krogmeier coming off the corners, which allowed John Oliver Jr., who started 7th, to close in to make it a three car battle for the lead. With Cook and Oliver Jr. racing side-by-side for the runner up spot, this allowed Krogmeier to hold on for his first win of the season at the track. Cook edged out Oliver Jr. by inches to finish 2nd, Oliver Jr. was 3rd, Tom Bowling Jr. finished 4th, with Washburne holding on for 5th.
The IMCA Stock Car feature on Saturday, June 9th at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa went to Burlington, Iowa's Chad Krogmeier. Which was his first win of the season.

Up next was the 12 lap IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Brandon Reu and Seth Keiser making up the front row for the event. But just as the green waved the yellow light came on, as Aaron Berry spun in turn 1 and collected Jake Houston to bring out the yellow. On the original restart Reu use his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Keiser and Jerrod Nichols. The action was slowed on lap 2, as debris in turn 1 brought out the caution. Reu once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Keiser and Larry Miller, who started 6th, battling for second. Just when Reu started to pull away from the battles going on behind him, another caution appeared to bring the field back to his back bumper. Ashton Blain, who was running 7th, stopped on the top of the track in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. Once again Reu jumped out front on the restart, with Miller over taking Keiser for second. Reu then looked like he was heading for an easy win, when another caution slowed him down on lap 10. Houston stopped down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Nichols and Alex Hayes spun  down the backstretch to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Reu jumped back out front, with Miller and Cody VanDusen, who started 11th, close behind. Just after the lap was scored complete Jeremy Hoenig spun down the backstretch to bring out the final yellow, and setting up a one lap shoot out for the win. Reu grabbed the lead on the restart and then held on to claim his first win of the season at 34 Raceway. Miller was 2nd, VanDusen was 3rd, Barry Taft came from 12th to finish in 4th, with Jake Dietrich finishing 5th after starting in 10th.
Donnellson, Iowa's Brandon Reu scored his first IMCA Sport Compact feature win of the season at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday, June 9th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 25 lap 305 Sprint Cars, with $1,000 awaiting the winner. Dan Keltner and Brian Hetrick drew the front row. But when Hetrick spun off the top of the track in turn 2 on the drop of the green to bring out the yellow, this would move Jarred Schneiderman to the outside of the front row for the restart. Schneiderman would take advantage of this move, as he moved out front to lead lap 1 over Keltner and Kyle Peterson. The pace that Schneiderman was sitting was so fast that by lap 8 he started to enter lapped traffic. Meanwhile, Josh Schneiderman, who was driving Nick Breuer’s #78 Sprinter, was working his way towards the front from his 12th place starting spot. Josh would work his way into second on lap 17, and by this time Jarred had built up a straight-away lead. Without a caution to bunch the field up there was no catching Jarred Schneiderman. Who picked up his second win of the season at the track and took home the $1,000 top prize to go with it. Josh Schneiderman settled for 2nd, Nick Guernsey was 3rd, Peterson was 4th, with Wyatt Wilkerson coming from 14th to round out the top 5.

Donnellson, IA (Friday, June 8, 2018) - It's hard to believe were are already halfway thru the 2018 points season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, as Friday night was Mid-Season Championship Night presented by Midwest Performance & Power and Coors Light. When the final checkered flag of night waved at 9:25 PM, two driver's visited victory lane for the first time of the season at the track and three others recorded multiple wins.

The 14 lap Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compact feature took to the track first, with Kenny Smith and Jake Dietrich leading the field to green. Dietrich took advantage of his starting spot to lead lap 1 over Josh Barnes and Smith. But that lead only lasted for 1 lap, as Barnes slipped past him to take over the top spot on lap 2. While Barnes set the pace out front, Brandon Ruffcorn, who was driving Barnes' back up car and started 9th, worked himself into second on lap 6. Two laps later, lap 8, the first and only caution of the race appeared for debris in turn 3. On the restart Barnes moved back out front, with Ruffcorn and Dietrich close behind. Ruffcorn looked under and even got up beside Barnes a couple of times over the final 5 laps. But Barnes was able to hold him off to claim his second win of the season at the track. Ruffcorn was 2nd, Brandon Reu started 6th and finished 3rd, Barry Taft finished 4th after starting in 8th, with Dietrich holding on for 5th.

Up next was the 18 lap Discount Tire & Service IMCA SportMod feature, with Ron Kibbe and Bob Cowman making up the front row. Kibbe used his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Daniel Fellows and Brandyn Ryan. The action up front was slowed for the first and only time on lap 11, when a tire was clipped in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Fellows jumped back out front, with Brandon Lennox, who started 8th, and Kibbe following. For the next 3 laps Lennox tried to work under Fellows, but when he had no luck making the pass Lennox went to the top of the track on lap 16 to try and complete the pass. Despite Lennox pulling even with Fellows at the line on lap 17, Fellows was able to hold on to pick up his second win of the season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Lennox settled for a close 2nd, Austin Howes finished 3rd, Brandon Dale started 7th and finished 4th, with Kibbe finishing in 5th.

Jeremy Pundt and John Oliver Jr. led the field to green in the 20 lap Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car feature, with Pundt grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Oliver Jr. and Jason Cook. Oliver Jr. would then try and work under Pundt over the next 4 laps, with Pundt holding him off each lap. That was until lap 5, when Oliver Jr. finally made the pass to take over the top spot. Meanwhile Cook, Abe Huls, and David Brandies, who started 5th, joined the battle up front. The action would go two and even three wide several times, while Oliver Jr. pace the field out front. Huls who had tried the bottom to wrestle the lead from Oliver Jr. for several laps, decided to go to the top on lap 11. Using the momentum off the top of turn 4 Huls edged out Oliver Jr. on lap 13 to take over the lead. Only to have Oliver Jr. come back on the bottom to take the lead back on lap 14. Brandies would take the battle for the lead three wide on lap 17 to grab the top spot. Then coming to the white flag Huls once again used the momentum off the top of turn 4 to edge out the lead. But Brandies would get under him coming off turn 2 on the final lap and then held him off to score his first win of the season at the track. Huls settled for a close 2nd, Cook was 3rd, Oliver Jr. was 4th, with Pundt completing the top 5.

Up next was the 20 lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Levi Smith and Mitch Boles leading the field to green. But it was third place starter Dean McGee who grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Jeff Waterman, who started 7th, and Boles. McGee then held the top spot until lap 3, when Waterman slipped by to take over the lead. While Waterman set a very fast pace out front, Logan Anderson, who started 6th, and Colby Springsteen, who started 10th, were working their way towards the front. On lap 9 Anderson moved into second and one lap later, lap 10, Springsteen took over third. Anderson, who was working the top, then worked to hold off Springsteen, who was on the bottom, over the final laps. As Waterman built up a straight-away lead, and without a caution to bunch up the field, Waterman would go on to claim his second win in a row and fourth overall at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Springsteen got by Anderson for 2nd on the final lap, Anderson was 3rd, McGee was 4th, with Bill Roberts Jr. coming from 9th to finish in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 20 lap Steffes Late Models, and when Darin Weisinger Jr. electing to go to the rear this would move Todd Frank up next to Brandon Savage. Frank used this move to his advantage, as he grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Ron Boyse, who started 5th, and Savage. The lead for Frank only lasted for 1 lap, as Boyse slipped under him coming off turn 4 to take over the top spot on lap 2. On lap 6 the action was slowed for the first and only time, as Weisinger Jr. spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Boyse jumped back out front, with Tommy Elston, who started 7th, and Frank close behind. Elston would try the bottom and top of the track over the final 13 laps to get the lead away from Boyse. But Boyse would hold him off to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Elston settled for 2nd, Sam Halstead started 6th and finished 3rd, Todd Frank was 4th, with Gunner Frank rounding out the top 5.

Dale From Worst to First in SportMod Action at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway

Donnellson, IA (Friday, June 1, 2018) - It was a hot and sticky Friday night at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, as J.J. Nichting and 101.7 The Bull helped to bring the action. But despite the heat that didn't stop the driver's from putting on some great racing action for the fans. At the end of the night five driver's returned to victory lane, with the Discount Tire and Service IMCA SportMods steeling the show that produced a new winner for 2018.

In 2018 the Pepsi Lee County Speedway added the Hobby Stocks back onto the card to give the Bloomfield, Eldon, and Oskaloosa, Iowa driver's a place to race on Friday nights. But so far this season the numbers have been very low, with that being the case again Friday night. Aaron Martin jumped out into the lead on lap 1 and then pulled away to claim his third win in a row at the track. Ricky Miller Jr. was 3rd, with Hank Billings making his debut and finishing in 3rd.

Up next was the 14 lap Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Kenny Smith and Jake Dietrich leading the field to the green. Smith would take advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Dietrich and Kimberly Abbott, who started 8th. While Smith paced the field out front the action behind him went two, three and even four wide at times, as driver's tried to work themselves to the front. The action was slowed for the first time on lap 4, as debris in turn 3 brought out the yellow. On the restart debris in turn 3 again brought the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Abbott grab the top spot, with Mike Reu, who started 6th, and Barry Taft, who started 9th, close behind. Over the next 7 laps Taft tried to work around Reu for the runner up spot. But Reu was able to hold him off, that was until lap 13 when Taft finally made the move. Taft then worked to chase down Abbott over the final 2 laps, but she was able to hold on to pick up her second win in a row at the track. Taft settled for 2nd, Reu was 3rd, Dietrich was 4th, with Brandon Reu completing the top 5.

Adam Niekamp and Ron Kibbe made up the front row for the 20 lap Discount Tire & Service IMCA SportMod feature, with Niekamp edging out Kibbe at the line by inches to lead lap 1. The lead for Niekamp lasted for 2 laps, as Daniel Fellows slipped under him to take over the top spot on lap 3. One lap later, lap 4, Brandon Lennox, who started 8th, slipped under Fellows for the lead. Then after the lap was scored complete the first caution slowed the action. Kyle Hamelton spun in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Lennox moved back out front, with Fellows and Austen Becerra close behind. Hamelton would spin in turn 2 on lap 7 to bring out his second caution to end his night. Lennox once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Adam Birck, who started 7th, over taking Fellows for the runner up spot. Becerra, who was running third, had his run up front come to an end on lap 13 when he slowed to a stop in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Lennox jumped back out front, with Austin Howes, who started 9th, and Brandon Dale, who started 15th, now following Lennox. The action up front was slowed on lap 15, when Jeffrey DeLonjay and Kibbe got together in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. Lennox moved back out front on the restart, with Dale getting past Howes for second. But just after lap 16 was scored complete, the final caution of the race appeared to set up a two lap shoot out to the finish. This time Tony Johnson spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Dale would use the momentum off the top of the track in turn 4 to take the top spot away from Lennox. Dale then held on to claim his first win of the season at the track. Lennox was 2nd, Howes was 3rd, Fellows was 4th, with Brett Lowry coming from 10th to round out the top 5.

Next up to take to the track was the 20 lap Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car feature, with Jason See and Chad Krogmeier leading the field to green. But it was third place starter Jeremy Pundt who edged out the lead on lap 1 over See and Abe Huls, who started 5th. Huls would work under Pundt to take over the top spot on lap 3. Three laps later, lap 6, the action was slowed when Randy Samberg spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Huls moved back out front, with Pundt, John Oliver Jr., and See battling for positions behind him. Huls then started to pull away from the battles going on behind him, when the final caution of the race appeared on lap 13. See, who was running 3rd, appeared to have lost an engine down the front stretch and slowed to a stop to bring out the yellow. Once again Huls grabbed the lead on the restart, with Pundt and Oliver Jr. close behind. While Pundt worked to hold off Oliver Jr. for the runner up spot, this allowed Huls to pull away to claim his second win of the the season at the track and became the first driver with a repeat win in the class in seven weeks of racing at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Pundt held on for 2nd, Oliver Jr. was 3rd, Jason Cook finished 4th, with Krogmeier rounding out the top 5.

Mitch Boles and Jeff Waterman brought the field to green in the 20 lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Waterman moving out front to lead lap 1 over Bill Roberts Jr. and Larry Herring. Waterman then set a fast pace out front, with Roberts Jr. and Herring trying to keep pace. But without a caution there was no stopping Waterman on this night, as he went on to win his third of the season at the track. Roberts Jr. was 2nd, Herring was 3rd, Boles was 4th, with Levi Smith coming home in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track on the night was the 20 lap Steffes Late Models, with Gunner Frank and Jeff Guengerich on the front row. Frank used his starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Guengerich and Ron Boyse. While Frank worked to hold off Guengerich for the top spot. Tommy Elston was using the middle to top groove to work himself into third on lap 4. Despite Guengerich trying to work under Frank over the final laps, Frank was able to hold on to pick up his second win of the season at the track and became the first repeat winner in the class at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in six weeks of racing. Guengerich settled for 2nd, Elston was 3rd, Boyse was 4th, with Sam Halstead finishing in 5th.
