Memphis, MO (Saturday, March 21, 2015) - Night 2 of the "Midwest Bottom Heavy Spring Nationals" at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO was held on Saturday, March 21st. The same five classes, Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts, were back in action. But Mike Densberger (Modifieds), Damon Murty (Stock Cars), Clint Luellen (SportMods), Shannon Anderson (Hobby Stocks), and Michael Grossman (Sport Compacts) found there way to victory lane on this night.
The first feature to take to the track was the 12 lap Sport Compacts, with Josh Barnes and Billy Cain drawing the front row. Barnes would take advantage of his front row start to edge out Michael Grossman, who started 5th, at the line by inches to lead lap 1. But Grossman would slip under Barnes on lap 2 to take over the top spot. While Grossman pulled away from the field, Kimberly Abbott who started 9th, was working her way towards the front. For the second night in a row the Sport Compact feature went caution free, which allowed Grossman to cruise to an easy win. Barnes held on for 2nd, Abbott edged out 3rd on the final lap over Trent Orwig in 4th, with Travis DeMint coming from 8th to finish in 5th.
Up next was the 14 lap Hobby Stock feature, with Shannon Anderson and Ryan Grochala leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Anderson took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Austin Luellen, who started 5th, and Grochala. The lead for Anderson only lasted for 2 laps, as Luellen slipped under him on lap 3 to take over the top spot. But Anderson didn't give up easy, as he looked under Luellen over laps 4 and 5, only to have Luellen hold him off. But coming off turn 2 on lap 6 Anderson was able to make the pass of Luellen to grab the lead back. Anderson then led the final 8 laps to pick up the win. Luellen settled for 2nd, Bill Bonnett started 6th and finished 3rd, Adam Armstrong came from 7th to finish in 4th, with Dustin Griffith finishing in 5th after starting in 8th.
Abe Huls and Jason Cook drew the front row for the 18 lap Stock Car feature. But it was fourth place starter Damon Murty who made a through the middle pass to grab the lead on lap 1 over Huls and Cook. While Murty set a fast pace out front Huls, Cook, John Oliver Jr., Cayden Carter, who started 13th, Nathan Wood, and Michael Jaennette, who started 8th, had a great side-by-side battle going for second thru seventh. That was until lap 15 when Carter, who was running 5th, lost an engine going into turn 1 to bring out the first caution of the race. On the restart Murty jumped back out front over Cook and Huls. But two laps later. lap 17, Erick Knutsen would spin in turn 4 to bring the yellow light back on and set up a green-white-checkered overtime finish. Murty once again grabbed the lead on the restart and held on to pick up the win. Cook was 2nd, Huls was 3rd, Jaennette was 4th, with Ryan Fullenkamp coming home in 5th.
Up next was the 18 lap SportMod feature, with Joey Gower and Jason McDaniel leading the field to green. Gower took the lead on lap 1 over Jim Gillenwater and Andrew Schroeder, who was driving Colten Livezey #29 car, and then held it until lap 2 when the first caution came out. Siraj Thomason would spin in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Gower moved back out front with Clint Luellen, who started 7th, glued to his back bumper. Luellen jumped to the outside of Gower coming off turn 4 on lap 4 to grab the top spot away at the line by inches. Luellen then started to pull away until a caution appeared on lap 15 to set up a green-white checkered over time finish. This time Austin Howes, who started 10th and was running 6th, dropped a drive shaft down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. The final restart saw Luellen move back out front, with Jenae Gustin, who started 9th, close behind in second. Gustin tried to stay with Luellen over the final 2 laps, but Luellen was able to hold her off to claim the win. Gustin settled for 2nd, Gower was 3rd, Austin Kaplan came from 11th to finish in 4th, with Brandon Dale rounding out the top 5.
The final feature of the night was the 20 lap Modifed, with Mike Densberger and Todd VanEaton drawing the front row. Densberger would take advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Richie Gustin and Hunter Marriott. The action up front was slowed on lap 2 when debris in turn 2 brought out the yellow. On the restart Densberger jumped back out front, with Marriott over taking Gustin for the second spot. Densberger, who ran the very top of the track, then worked to hold off Marriott, who went into the corners low an tried to slip in front of Densberger, over the next 9 laps. While Gustin, who ran the top of the track, worked to hold back Michael Long, who also tried to go into the corners low and slip up in front of Gustin. All this action was slowed for the second time on lap 10, when Kyle Graves spun in 4 to bring out the yellow. Once again Densberger moved out front on the restart, with Marriott, Gustin and Long close behind. The action up front was slowed for the final time on lap 14, when Jacob Murray, who was running 5th, spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Densberger moved back out front on the restart, with Marriott looking under him for the lead. But Densberger would hold on over the final 6 laps to pick up the win. Marriott settled for 2nd, Gustin was 3rd, Long was 4th, with Jeff James coming from 10th to finish in 5th.
Notes from Memphis: For the second night in a row the Sport Compact feature went caution FREE!!!...Chuck Fullenkamp started 13th and finished 6th....Barry Taft came from 11th to finish in 7th....Brandon Lambert started 16th and finished 10th....Jeffrey DeLonjay suffered a left rear flat in the heat race and had to start the feature in 19th. He would then pass 8 cars to come home in 11th....Kevin Garrett started 18th and finished 13th....John Girdley was running 6th when he pulled of with troubles on lap 3 to end his night in 19th......The Hobby Stock feature went caution FREE!!!....Nick Ulin started 10th and finished 6th....Matt Smith had engine troubles in his heat race that forced him to scratch from the feature......Jim Lynch started the Stock Car feature in 9th and finished 6th....Dalton Lynch came from 11th to finish in 8th....Les Blakley had troubles in his heat race that forced him to start the feature in 16th, He would then pass 6 cars to come home in 10th....Andrew Hustead made the jump from the Hobby Stock class to the Stock Car class for the 2015 season. He would make his first start on night two and finished in 13th....John Oliver Jr. was running 5th when he broke a gear on the final lap, which relegated him to a 15th place finish....Cayden Carter, who was running 5th after starting in 13th, broke a motor on lap 15 and finished in 16th......Colby Heishman suffered a right front flat in his heat race and had to start the SportMod feature in 20th. He would then pass 14 cars to bring home a 6th place finish....Austen Becerra passed 11th cars from his 18th place starting spot to finish in 7th....Brett Lowry once again drove Shawn Ritter's #7SR machine. He came from 15th to finish in 10th....Clint Baker started 22nd and passed 10 cars to come home in 12th....John Anderson started 21st and finished 14th....Austin Howes, who was running 6th after starting in 10th, dropped a drive shaft on the front stretch on lap 15 to end his night in 16th......Mike Densberger from Lincoln, Nebraska redeemed himself after night 1 of having to come from the rear from being disqualified from his heat race. He would draw the pole for the feature and held on for a flag-to-flag win....Cayden Carter started 12th and finished in 7th....Carter VanDenberg finally got the bugs worked out of his new car and finished 10th after starting in 14th....Scott Dickey suffered the same fate as Mike Densberger did in night 1 of his heat race, as Dickey was disqualified after taking the checkers in heat 1 and instead of exiting into the infield on the backstretch he made another lap. Dickey would start the feature in 22nd and then passed 11 cars to come home in 11th....Kyle Brown started 21st and finished 12th....Jacob Murray recovered from his spin on lap 14 to come back up to finish in 15th.
