Burlington, IA (Saturday, August 21, 2010) - 34 Raceway in Burlington played host to the Sprint Invaders with the "Night Of The Twins", giving tribute to the late 2008 305 Sprint Champion Brian Hetrick. At the end of the night Kaley Gharst (1st Sprint feature), Matt Sutton (2nd Sprint feature), Jeff Morris (IMCA Modifieds) and Mike Morrill (Mod Lites) would put there machines in victory lane.
The first feature on the night was the 12 lap Mod Lites, with Andrew Smith and Joe Huggins drawing the front row for the event. Huggins would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Mike Morrill. Huggins run in the lead would come to an end on lap 4, as he spun to a stop in turn 2 to bring out the first caution. On the restart Morrill inherited the lead, with the second caution coming out for Todd Thornburg, Josh Woodruff and Alex Headly colliding in turn 1. Jim Neal spun off turn 2 with a flat left rear tire on the next restart to bring the yellow light back on. Morrill once again jumped out front on the restart, with Greg Rossell following him close behind in second. The final caution of the race would come out on lap 9, as Blake Woodruff spun to a stop in turn 2. On the restart Morrill moved back out into the lead and then held off Rossell over the final 3 laps to pick up the win. Justin Buchholz came home in 3rd, Shon Sanders was 4th, with Huggins recovering from his lap 4 spin to finish in 5th.
Kaley Gharst and Ben Wagoner led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 1st Sprint Invaders 20 lap feature, with Wagoner taking the lead on lap 1 over Gharst. But his lead would only last for 1 lap, as Gharst jumped to his outside on lap 2 to take over the top spot. The first caution would come out on lap 4 to slow Gharst's pace down. Debris in turn 1 off of Jimmy Davies car would be the cause of the caution. On the restart Gharst again moved out into the lead and was starting to pull away from the field when the red flag came out on lap 9 to slow the race down. Donnie Steward, who was running 6th, took a light roll on to his side in turn 4 to bring out the red. Gharst again jumped out into the lead on the restart, with Russ Hall moving in to challenge him. The battle for the lead was slowed for the final time on lap 13, as Joey Moughan, who was running 3rd, spun off of turn 2. On the restart Gharst jumped back out front and once again had Hall close behind him in second. Gharst would hold off all challenges from Hall over the final 7 laps to claim the win. Dave Hall came from 10th to finish in 3rd, Wagoner held on for 4th, with Jarrod Schneiderman coming from his 13th place starting spot to round out the top 5.
Jeff Morris and Darin Thye made up the front row for the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, with Morris jumping out into the lead on lap 1. The first caution of the event would appear on lap 4, as Derek Hamm slowed to a stop in turn 1 with front end troubles. On the restart the hood of Thye's car, who was running 5th, would fly up to block his view to cause him to slow to a stop in turn 1. Morris grabbed the lead on the restart and was pulling away from the battle for second, as Scott Hogan, who started 12th, was working his way to the front. Jamie Smith would spin in turn 2 on lap 14 to bring out the final caution of the race. Once again Morris moved out into the lead on the restart, but now had Hogan chasing him in second. Morris would hold off Hogan on the final lap to pick up his first win of the season at the speedway. Dusty Kraklio came from 9th to finish in 3rd, Brandon Rothzen came home in 4th, with Dennis LaVeine coming home in fifth.
The invert for the 2nd Sprint Invaders 20 lap feature would put Jake Blackhurst and John Schulz on the front row, with Schulz taking advantage of his starting spot to lead lap 1. Schulz then held the lead until lap 5, when Joey Moughan jumped to his outside to take over the top spot. Moughan was pulling away from second and was looking to be heading for the win until he approached lapped traffic on lap 14. The traffic would hold up Moughan enough to allow Matt Sutton to quickly catch him. Sutton would work the lapped traffic to perfection on lap 17 to grab the lead away from Moughan, who got held up. The final caution of the event would appear on lap 18 to set up a green-white-checkered finish. Joe Beavers, who was running 8th, would spin to a stop in turn 3 to bring out the final caution. On the restart Moughan would go to work on Sutton for the lead, as the two drivers took the white flag lap side-by-side. Moughan would drive it hard into turn 1 on the bottom to slid up in front of Sutton for the lead. But Sutton would jump to the bottom coming out of turn 2 to take the lead back. Moughan would try the same thing in 4, but Sutton was ready for the move. Sutton would edge out Moughan at the line to pick up the win. Moughan settled for 2nd, Ryan Jamison came from 8th to finish in 3rd, Kaley Gharst charged from 15th to come home in 4th, with Schulz holding on for fifth.
