Perry, Hogan, Warth, Raker and Strassheim Claim 34 Raceway Wins

Burlington, IA (Saturday, July 17, 2010) - Despite the extreme heat index warnings, the racing action at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa went on. The action was moved back 30 minutes to try and give the drivers, crews and fans some what of a relief. At the end of the night Jason Perry (IMCA Late Models), Scott Hogan (IMCA Modifieds), Dave Warth (IMCA Stock Cars), Ray Raker (Hobby Stocks) and Matt Strassheim (4 Cylinders) took home the feature wins.

The first feature on the night was the 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, with Lonnie Heap and Darin Thye on the front row of the event. Heap would grab the lead on the drop of the green, over Thye and Mike Weikert Jr. With Heap out front, Dennis LaVeine, who started 8th, was quickly working his way to the front. LaVeine would jump to the outside of Heap on lap 10 to take over the top spot. The first caution of the event would come out on lap 11, when Norm Brakeville spun into the turn three wall. On the restart LaVeine moved back out front, with Dean McGee following in second. Two other drivers on the move on the restart were Scott Hogan, who started 11th, and Rich Smith, who started 12th. LaVeine was working to try and hold off the Hogan, Smith and McGee, when disaster struck him on lap 18. LaVeine would come to a stop in turn 3 with something breaking in the right front. As a result Hogan would inherit the lead on the restart and then held off Smith over the final 2 laps to claim the win. Tyler VandeKamp came home in 3rd, McGee was 4th, with Jeff Waterman coming from 9th to round out the top 5.

Up next was the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car feature. Les Blakley and Bo Hunter led the field to the drop of the green. But Abe Huls would spin in turn four and collected Luke McLaughlin, Corey Strothman, Tim Breuer, Shane Watts and Chris Webb to bring out the first caution. On the restart Blakley would spin in four and collected Hunter, Jim Redmann, Greg Johnson, Watts and McLaughlin to bring the caution out once again. The front row for the restart was now Derek St. Clair and Dave Warth, with St. Clair taking advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1. But the caution would come out again after the completion of lap 1, as Brett Timmerman spun down the backstretch. On the restart St. Clair again jumped out front, but was slowed one lap later. As Rod Staats and Watts got together in turn 3 to bring the yellow light back on. St. Clair grabbed the lead on the restart, with Warth close behind. Just as the battle for the lead started to heat up, the yellow light again came back on. This time Devon Timmerman spun in turn 4 on lap 5. Again St. Clair moved out front on the restart, with Warth close behind in 2nd. Warth, who was working the bottom of the speedway, and St. Clair, who was working the middle, ran laps 7-9 side-by-side, with Warth coming out on top on lap 10. The final caution of the event would come out on lap 12, when Brett Timmerman and Redmann spun in turn 2. On the restart Warth moved back out into the lead, with Jeff Mueller, who started 12th, moving into second. Mueller would try to get around Warth over the final 8 laps, but Warth would hold on to pick up the win. St. Clair held on for a great 3rd place finish, Travis Finke charged from 19th to finish in 4th, with John Brockway coming from 15th to round out the top 5.

Jay Chenoweth and Tom Bowling Jr. made up the front row for the 25 lap IMCA Late Model feature, with Chenoweth grabbing the lead on lap 1. Chenoweth was working to hold off Boone McLaughlin and Bowling Jr., when the first caution came out on lap 6. Nate Beuseling would spin in turn 2 and collected Justin Reed. On the restart McLaughlin, who was running 2nd, got sideways and spun in turn 2. Lonnie Bailey, who was running 5th, would spin and came to a stop in the pit entrance on the restart to bring the caution back out. The final caution of the event would come out on the third attempt of a restart, when debris was left in turn 2 from Reed's car. Chenoweth jumped back out into the lead on the restart, with Jason Perry close behind in second. Perry would slip under Chenoweth on lap 8 to take over the top spot and then looked to be heading for the win. But Rob Toland, who started 10th, had different ideas. He would run down Perry on lap 22, as the 2 ran side-by-side. But Perry was able to hold Toland off over the final 3 laps to claim the win. Joey Gower came from 12th to finish in 3rd, Tom Goble was 4th, with Jeff Guengerich coming home in 5th.

Josh Tripp and Ray Raker led the field to green in the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature, with Raker leading lap 1. Raker started to pull away from the field, when the first and only caution came out on lap 12. Victor Hastings would spin in turn 2, at the same time David Cloke would go over turns 1 and 2. On the restart Raker jumped back out into the lead and then held on over the final 3 laps to pick up the win. Tanner Thomann came from 9th to finish in 2nd, Jake Wenig started 12th and came home in 3rd, Alex Buffington was 4th, with Randy Wachter coming from 10th to round out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was the 12 lap 4 Cylinders, with Cory Sheetz and Matt Strassheim drawing the front row. Strassheim would take advantage of his draw to jump out front on the drop of the green. But the red would come out after the completion of lap 1, as Rex Smart rolled in turn 2. Smart would come out of the car ok and then climbed back into it to drive it back to the pits. On the restart Strassheim again grabbed the lead, with Gabe Harrison holding on for second. The event was slowed once again on lap 5, when Jordan Tipps, Jerrod Nichols and Troy Wonders spun in turn 3. On the restart Travis DeMint, Brad Chandler and Geoffrey Theobald hit the front stretch wall hard to bring out the red. All drivers would climb out ok. Strassheim again moved out front on the restart and then pulled away over the final 7 laps to claim the win. Nathan Chandler came from 7th to finish in 2nd, Wayne Noble started 10th and finished in 3rd, Harrison held on for 4th, with Darin Smith coming from 11th to round out the top 5.
